Inspiration
ReadyMade, one of my favorite magazines, reimagines the poster art of the (first) Great Depression.

Anya,
My name is Michael Vacirca. I was born and raised on Staten Island right across the bridge from you.
I attended Stevens Institute of Technology, and then Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida for my masters degree.
After college, I have been left with a large amount of student debt like many other people.
I had a brainstorm the other day, and decided to try out my new idea. It lines up perfectly with your book which I had never heard of until now - I just ordered a copy of it.
The premise is simple - I have created a non profit company that will collect donations to help lift students out of their student loan payment hell in this new economy.
I started the site, and setup a Cause on Facebook this week. We already have close to 100 members, have 4 featured students who have posted their stories, and have collected 25 dollars so far (its a start!). I have already filed for non profit incorporation in Florida, and am applying at the federal level for 501.3(c) status as a charity.
If there is any way I can become involved with your work to promote this grassroots idea, I would sincerely love to help.
My new book, DIY U:Edupunks, Edupreneurs and the Coming Transformation of Higher Education (buy it here), will be published by Chelsea Green in April 2010. I'm a staff writer for Fast Company Magazine and the author of the book Generation Debt. I've written Generation Debt columns for the Village Voice and as a featured Yahoo! Finance expert. I've also written for publications ranging from the New York Times to ReadyMade magazine and Mental Floss.
I live in Brooklyn with a phenomenal husband and an amazing cat.
