Bogus Credit Counseling Agencies

I wrote an online piece for the Voice yesterday about the IRS crackdown on these places that are supposed to help you fix your credit.
You can do anything that a credit counselor can do, although they make it easier. That is, you can call your credit card companies yourself to negotiate lower interest rates and work out a payment plan. Making the payments on time is up to you.

It's a sad day in this country when people (e.g. lawyers, etc) try to make a buck off the already down and trodden. People with credit problems need a life boat and instead we send in the sharks.

We need to do a better job at the beginning of the life cycle and educate our youth on the benefits of good financial choices.
