Yes, the system is collapsing. We will be something like a South American Republic in 10-20 years. As I feared, Obama will be nothing other than a funeral director. It will be his job to help Americans realize that they no longer have or ever will have a 1st world standard of living again. Also, remember that the unemployment rate was calculated more honestly back in the 1930s. Our real unemployment rate is maybe 16% and climbing. They like to play with the numbers, if you know what I mean. If you don't have wealth by now, odds are you never will.
Since we allowed the second Bush to be illegally elected, we should just pretend its the 80's again. During the Reagan years, people fresh out of school couldnt get good work, cars were junk, and everyone just stayed high and drunk all the time to deal with it.
My new book, DIY U:Edupunks, Edupreneurs and the Coming Transformation of Higher Education (buy it here), will be published by Chelsea Green in April 2010. I'm a staff writer for Fast Company Magazine and the author of the book Generation Debt. I've written Generation Debt columns for the Village Voice and as a featured Yahoo! Finance expert. I've also written for publications ranging from the New York Times to ReadyMade magazine and Mental Floss.
I live in Brooklyn with a phenomenal husband and an amazing cat.
