This was my easiest and most fun to write column so far. I just talked about some of the simple ways my household spends a little less and enjoys life more.
I didn't even get into the green angle, which is another excellent reason to not spend more than you need.

A popular personal finance blog defended you pretty heartily against those negative comments:

great column: I am now looking for your book!
Nice article. I've read it from Yahoo.
Awesome column. I live like this and have money in the bank, no debt, and some future security to show for it.
Anya,
Nice Yahoo! article. My wife and I are both 49. We started our careers in the early '80s and had a lot of fun along the way without breaking the bank. We saved prodigiously and were never really interested in accumulating "stuff", nor did we care what other people thought. We continue to have great fun, and look forward to a very early retirement.
I hope a lot of the 18-34 demographic take your advice! Keep up the good work.
Great column. As far as cooking frugality, as a young professional with limited cooking/shopping time I find that consistency really helps lean the whole process, ie find recipes and stay consistent then you know what you need and how much it should cost. Here is my post on it (So easy a cavemen could cook it).
